St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman is reminding residents to be aware of fraudulent electric shut-off calls and scams.
"Anyone receiving a call from someone claiming to be with a utility company and threatening to immediately shut off service without payment over the phone should hang up and call the validated customer service number for the utility company servicing that location to verify before issuing any payments," the sheriff department said in a statement.
